SPECIFIC GOALS OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES DEPARTMENT
Foreign Languages Department English curriculum has been integrated with Common European Framework Program objectives. We prepare yearly plan for “learner autonomy” approach.

We aim to make sure that students pass Cambridge University PET (Preliminary English Test) at the end of grade 9 and they pass TOEFL exams in grade 11. In 11th grade, students are expected to skip prep classes of universities. Every Darüşşafaka graduate will have completed reading a total of 100 English books by the time they graduate from school.

As the second foreign language, students study either French or German and they are expected to have A2 level.  We aim to make sure that students are aware of the necessity of speaking a second foreign language, and they can express their opinions, thoughts and impressions either in French and German.

METHOD
In foreign language education, different approaches are used based on communicative approach. We enrich our program with the activities in real-life environments where students can use the foreign language in its social context.

Reading, writing, listening and speaking skills of students are developed. English lessons are designed as “integrated skills”, “skills” and “writing” with interdisciplinary planning of current and different themes-topics. “Reading” lessons include analysis, synthesis and evaluation activities from original stories. “Task Based Learning”, “Drama”, “Role Play”, “Critical Thinking and Cooperative Learning”, age-appropriate peer and group activities are carried out.

STUDENT MONITORING AND HOMEWORK CHECK
